10 People Reveal the Craziest Things They've Ever Done in a Relationship

Love makes you do things you wouldn't normally do. Your brain releases chemicals that significantly reduce your judgment skills and ability to pay attention to detail.

That's why it is always good to look back once you are no longer in the relationship. You can more clearly see, from an outside perspective, just how crazy you were over the person.

Below are the top ten stories of the craziest things people have ever done in a relationship:

1. The Valentine's Day Nightmare

The Valentine's Day Nightmare
The Valentine's Day Nightmare

"Many years ago, I became absolutely smitten with a young woman. She was friendly, intelligent, funny, and almost painfully attractive, with a list of interests and hobbies that seemed like they were a near-perfect match to my own.

Within hours of our first conversation, I decided that the two of us belonged together. As a result of that decision, I launched myself into a series of increasingly stupid attempts at seduction.

There is any number of idiotic misadventures that I could describe, but perhaps the most ridiculous of them happened on the evening before Valentine's Day.

I purchased my would-be paramour a small potted plant – something she said she'd appreciate more than flowers or chocolate – and I was intent on leaving it somewhere for her to discover. While any sane person would have just placed the gift on her welcome mat, I opted for a much less wise approach.

I convinced the girl's flatmate to give me access to their kitchen. My hope was that I could position the present in such a way that it would remain unnoticed until the next morning, at which point it would seem to magically appear in the morning light.

Now, lest you think that I was a complete moron, I should mention that the young woman in question was supposed to be out of the house while I was making my clandestine delivery. Unfortunately for me, she had changed her schedule at the last minute. She arrived back at home almost immediately after I had been let in.

Her roommate and I exchanged hurried whispers as we discussed a place for me to hide, but since there were only a few seconds to spare, I had to settle for ducking down behind the counter that separated the kitchen from the living room.

Had this been a scene in a romantic comedy, a slapstick series of mad dashes and near-misses would have ensued. Sadly, real life doesn't work like that, and I was found almost immediately.

The girl walked into the living room, asked her roommate who she had been talking to, then made a move to approach the kitchen. Knowing that I was about to be caught, I huddled as far back into a corner as I could, then held the potted plant up in front of my face.

"Uh... hi, Max," I heard the young woman say.

"You can't see me," I replied. "I'm hiding."

The good news is that my efforts were more or less appreciated. I semi-sheepishly presented the girl with her gift, wished her a happy Valentine's Day, then explained why I had been sneaking around in her apartment. She graciously accepted but asked why I had tried such a convoluted way of giving her a present.

All I could say was that it seemed like a good idea at the time."

2. The Crazy Cat Lady

"I quit my job as a live-in Nanny because I was only making $100 a week. That wouldn't pay for any housing, food, or travel. I became an exotic dancer for two weeks, and that was enough to save money for a house or and other expenses.

I didn't like dancing and was sober the whole time. I made good money, but other than that, I hated it. When the time came for my plane ride, I had my cats ready to go and got there two hours early.

The cargo guy said there was a problem and that the cats never got on the booking. They wanted to separate the cats and charge me $682, which was $500 more than they said it would be. They wouldn't accept cash either, and that was all I had on me.

I called ahead of time to confirm the booking, but I got there, and they didn't have one reserved. I ended up missing my flight and had to buy a new one. However, somehow after four hours, we got it resolved.

I was so angry and upset, but I finally got to board a plane with my cats and flew across the country to be with the one I love and am now, here and married."

3. The Jokester

"We weren't really dating, and we definitely weren't official, but we had kind of something going on.

At around 3 pm, she told me that she was gonna be done with her internship in two hours. I joked about traveling all the way to where she was just to pick her up, which was about a 2-hour journey. We both laughed it off, but for whatever reason, I felt gutsy and went anyway.

Not only did I have to wait outside the building for about 40 minutes or so, but she also walked out of the building with another guy.

I didn't want to make things awkward for both of us, so I sprinted all the way back to the metro station in hopes that she did not notice me. I even behaved as if nothing happened.

To this day, she still doesn't know about it."

4. The Daycare Dream Girl

"I was four years old in daycare. I was new there, and there was a girl who was also four years old and wanted to be friends with me. We were friends for about one week.

After that week of chatting with each other, she must have been curious about love because she asked to kiss me, and I said, "ok."

It was no kiss. It was a full-on make out. This continued for days. She would not stop making out with me. We made out at the top of slides, in the bathrooms, and for lunch at the table.

After a while, I decided to roll with it. Pretty soon, though, my aunt gets a job there. The girl decided to kiss me again, and of course, my aunt caught us both in the act.

Why was it crazy?

That girl was the adopted daughter of the daycare owner."

5. The Big Teddy Bear

The Big Teddy Bear
The Big Teddy Bear

"Not much love but infatuation. Sophomore year in high school, I was into this girl, and for some reason, I thought that buying her a big teddy bear was a good idea.

Anyway, I had asked her cousin to help me in on it and gave her the money to buy it. She got it and gave it to me outside of school. Now, the trick was how to explain this to my family. By the time I got home, there was nobody home. I hid it in my ridiculously large closet, and no one was the wiser. Now, the teddy bear was about four feet high, so now I had to deal with getting out of the house and to school with a giant teddy bear.

So I left the house at four in the morning and walked all the way to school. The whole neighborhood felt like a ghost town, but I didn't mind. I got to the overpass near my school, and from there, I could see that the gate was still closed. Nobody but the overnight guard was inside. I didn't know him, or if he would even let me in, so I just stayed in the overpass.

Since it was so early in the morning, there wasn't even enough traffic for people to even take the overpass, so I was up sitting on the steps alone. Well, not completely alone, I had a big pink teddy bear to talk to.

I kept myself occupied, mostly singing random songs. After a while, I saw janitorial staff waiting outside the school gate. Before long, the gate was opened, and I went into the school with the rest of the staff.

I hid it in a spare room, and later in the day gave it to her. It was all the class would talk about the whole day.

The next day she told me that she had to set it aside because she was asthmatic, and the teddy bear was giving her problems. well…"

6. The Cross Country Mover

"I Moved across America after being with him for six months. It was an accident. I was only supposed to be visiting for a week.

When I was supposed to wake up to get to my flight, my ex turned my alarm off and let me sleep in. My anxiety for missing the flight, paired with my internal clock, woke me up. I was too late by boarding regulations, but I was there. I was there before it took off.

Fast forward six months later, there is me on the floor bruised and sobbing with his family rushing in. No one believed he did anything.

This wasn't the first time he hit me or shoved me or scared the shit out of me. He would constantly cheat on me with anyone possible and get angry and jealous if I even looked at a phone or computer.

When I started to stand up for myself, he started the abuse.

I stayed for six months after his blatant sabotage of my flight home.

I loved him. I want to kill him now.

I did stupid things for someone I thought I loved."

The Dog Lover

"I once loved a dog so much that I kept dating his owner for two years after I realized the relationship was doomed.

I tried to break up once, but the dog ran away and found me. When she came to get him, we got back together and dated for a few more months.

Despite the fact that I am now happily engaged to someone else, I've stayed friends with this ex-girlfriend on Facebook so I can follow pictures of her dog."

8. The 30-Day Fiancé

"I left the country and got married within the first month of actually meeting my husband.

I legitimately think that was crazy. I don't think I could ever really advocate for people doing what I did.

That said, I nailed it. It was the best decision of my life. When I told them I was going, my dad tried to stop me by locking my passport in a bank vault. Now the family loves him. My relationship with my parents has even improved. Life is strange."

9. The Plane Trip

The Plane Trip
The Plane Trip

"Last year, I got some extra money and decided to visit my significant other. We were living in different cities -- it was far enough to the point that I needed to take a plane and two bus trips.

I had two options: arriving at her city at 11 am or 5 pm.

I chose eleven.

For it to be possible, I got the 7 pm ticket the night before, which meant I arrived at the airport at 11 pm. The next bus to her city was at 6 am, so from 11 pm to 6 am, I had pretty much nothing to do, and due to being anxious, I didn't get any sleep.

After almost dying from boredom, it was time to go to the bus station.

At this point, I realized how much I messed up. There aren't any taxis to the bus station or bus from the airport to the bus station; it's 4:30 am.

I asked some random dude how to get a taxi or something, and he gave me some instructions. I walked over 1km, with one bag full of clothes and one handbag full of devices to get a taxi.

No taxi for 20 minutes.

Inside the car, I decided to start a conversation with the taxi driver. I was asking for random stuff. Then he decided to question me about where I lived and where my family and I were from. At this point, I was about to call my mom.

Then he thought it was a good idea to start talking about two kidnappings that happened on that same path that I walked.

I got to the bus station almost late but alive.

I got to her city.

She was on her period."

10. Brace-Face

"Took my own braces off with nail clippers.

I was head over heels in love with this chick but found out through a friend she didn't find me attractive. I'd had my braces on for four years, and my teeth were perfectly straight, so I figured it was time.

She finally said yes to me asking her out two weeks later.

Who'd have thought she'd turn out to be shallow and I'd end up the sucker?

Yes, my parents were absolutely livid."
